Cycling Federation of Belize releases ‘Unofficial List’ of 94th Holy Saturday Cross Country Cycling Classic won by Honduran Luis López

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Cycling Federation of Belize (CFB) on Easter Monday released an ‘Unofficial List’ of the  results of the 94^th Holy Saturday Cross Country Cycling Classic confirming Honduran Luis López of LL Team’s time as five hours, 39 minutes, and 19.418 seconds (5:39:25.418).

López broke the record of 5:40:12 set in 2008 by American Ryan Bauman by 47 seconds. In total, nine riders bested Bauman’s time.

“On behalf of the Cycling Federation of Belize, please find the unofficial results up to the 31st position,” the Cycling Federation of Belize said in a social media post.

“The judges are reviewing the videos to verify since unfortunately, all the service vehicles with bikes and riders continue across with active timing chips.”

The 139.9-mile 94^th Holy Saturday Cross Country Cycling Classic started at 6:00 am by Digi Park in Belize City, headed to San Ignacio, and returned to Belize City finishing just before midday at Digi Park on Newtown Barracks in front of a big crowd, right where it had started.

Guatemalan Alex Rony Julajuj of PPP Development Team was second in 5:39:45.194 seconds, 20 seconds behind.

American Abner Maxwell of Skyline Cadence Cycling was third in 5:39:48.478, 23 seconds behind.

Fourth place was captured  by the first Belizean, Alliance United’s Carlton Robinson, who put up a hell of a fight, in 5:39:56.715, 31 seconds behind.

For fifth place, we’ll have to wait for the official results as the ‘Unofficial List’ has American Cyrus Pearo of Primal-Audi Denver finishing with the same time as Robinson, but Pearo was clearly a number of seconds behind as can be seen by the photograph of Robinson crossing the finish line alone. Since Pearo was leading a group of five, his time would more than likely be the same as riders six to nine who were clocked at 5:40:00.315, 3.6 seconds behind Robinson.

Belizean Joslyn Chavarria, Jr. of Santino’s Belize Cycling Team was sixth, Canadian Jean-Michel Lachance of team Quebexico was seventh, Miami Blazers’ American Cory Lockwood was eighth, and Skyline Cadence Cycling’s American John Delong was ninth.

Delong’s American teammate, Clayton Travis, who led going into and out of San Ignacio, rounded off the Top 10 in 5:41:05.686.

Last year’s second place rider, Cory Williams, Belizean-American of the Miami Blazers, finished 11^th with the same time as Travis.

Valvoline’s Oscar Quiroz was right behind Williams in 12^th position clocking 5:41:25.021.

Last year’s winner, Valvoline’s Oscar Quiroz was right behind Williams in 12^th position clocking 5:41:25.021.

Another Belizean, who fans were banking on, G-Flow’s Derrick Chavarria, Joslyn’s younger brother, rode in 13^th in 5:41:29.857. Derrick led a group of 12 riders, including Junior Cross Country Cycling Classic Champion Jaylen Briceño.

Chavarria was followed by Lovell Cycling Team’s Giovanni Lovell (14^th), Valvoline’s Dylan Levy (15^th), Corozal Cycling Team’s Delton Rojas (16^th), Quebexico’s American Shay Wright (17^th), G-Flow’s Goran Gabourel (18^th), G-Flow’s Jyven Gonzalez (19^th), Rolling Shattaz’s Brandon Morgan (20^th), Rolling Shattaz’s Dejuan Hyde (21^st),  Rolling Shattaz’s Wasani Castro (22^nd), Rolling Shattaz’s Ivan Usher (23^rd), and Genesis Cycling Team’s Briceño (24^th).

Briceño was the Youngest Rider to finish the race.

Robert Liam Stewart of MnM Engineering Cycling Team rounded off the Top 25 in 5:41:32.968.

In total, according to the unofficial list, 110 of 116, who registered, finished the race. The list only gives finishing time for 81 riders. The last recorded time is 6:59:54.720.

According to the ‘Unofficial List’ only four riders didn’t finish (DNF) but from what we gather, more riders didn’t finish as 2005 winner American Bill Elliston noted in a comment .

“”Unofficial” is good, as several riders listed as finishing, including me, didn’t,” Elliston of STK Cycling/Elliston Coaching said.

Two Mexican riders from Zorros of Yucatán did not start (DNS) the race.

In total, Belize placed two riders in the Top Ten (Robinson and Joslyn Chavarria), 11 among the Top 20, and 16 among the Top 25.
